This page explains what information Bakau Review collects and how it is used.

What we collect

We collect the information you choose to give us: your name and email address, and optionally a phone number and a message, if you submit a story tip or correction through our contact form; and your email address alone if you sign up for our newsletter through the subscription field on this site.

We do not require an account to read our reporting, and we do not collect payment information, because we do not sell anything on this site.

Contact and subscription details

Details submitted through the contact form are used only to respond to your message and, where relevant, to verify a story tip or correction request. Details submitted through the subscription field are used only to send our newsletter and are not shared with any other party for marketing purposes.

Cookies and measurement

We use a small number of cookies, described in full on our cookie policy page. A consent record is stored in your browser after you choose Accept or Decline on the cookie banner, which appears the first time you visit, so the choice does not need to be repeated on every visit. If you accept, we also use a measurement cookie to understand which reports are read and for how long; clearing site data in your browser settings resets the banner so you can choose again.

Third-party services

Fonts, icons and page styling on this site are delivered through content delivery networks operated by third parties, which may log the fact that your browser requested those files as a normal part of serving them. Depending on measurement and advertising identifiers the publisher configures at deploy time, the homepage may also load third-party measurement and advertising pixels (for example Meta Pixel and Google Analytics); when configured, these are set by the publisher's deployment rather than by any choice made on this site, and can load and record a page view before or regardless of the cookie banner choice described above.

Retention

Contact form submissions are kept for as long as needed to handle the request and are then deleted. Newsletter subscription addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Measurement data, where consent has been given, is retained in aggregate form and is not linked back to an individual reader.

Your choices

You can choose Decline on the cookie banner when it first appears, or clear cookies and site data through your browser's settings at any time to reset your choice and see the banner again; you can unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email we send, and ask us to delete a contact form submission by writing to us with the details you provided.
